The KKK are also allowed freedom of speech. That doesn’t mean they’re right in what they say. I don’t go to KKK rallies just to support their first amendment rights.
Bigotry is bigotry, no matter what amendment you wrap around it.

I want to write. For those of you who have an activity that is near and dear to your heart, you know that feeling when everything in the world seems to work against your impetus to enjoy that activity, that hobby, that soul-fulfilling experience.
Right now, the stars are aligned against me, it seems. The commitments I made when I was carefree and available are now coming due. The talents I displayed in the past and promised to use to the benefit of others are now denied to my own benefit. The creative brain. The vivid imagination. The drive to be different.
Not mine at the moment. All that belongs to others.
I feel like a caged canary, singing not because I like to sing, but because I have hopes that the bars will melt away if I sing hard enough.
Five minutes. I just want five minutes to feel like I did three months ago – full of drive and ambition. Now I am just a husk. My entire being has been given away.
Just five minutes.

I’m an okay cook. Not terrible, just “okay”. I can heat canned soup and add a little delicious something to it to make it more palatable, and if pressed I will make stuff from scratch, such as pasta sauce or frittata.
We won’t even talk about baking. My mom was an excellent baker; I’m completely undisciplined about it which makes me a lousy baker.
One thing I will spend time cooking is anything with a Mexican flavor. I don’t know if it’s because of my Texan father’s affinity for it has developed my own tastes buds for it or if I’m influenced by my own experience of driving to southern Mexico to participate in a body recovery of a caver in Oaxaca, but I simply love the flavors of Mexican cuisine.

As the membership chair/liaison for Colorado Romance Writers, Lori Corsentino was the first person I met in CRW. Outgoing, intelligent, energetic, she fills the role perfectly. And it helps that she’s a damned good writer!
The only thing I felt bad for her about was when we found we have similar philosophy on life, she said she was “just like me” and I thought “I’m so sorry for you, my dear!” :-) All joking aside, she also said that she and I would get along famously. She was right and I am glad.
I was also very glad when she agreed to be interviewed for my blog. Please enjoy this fascinating author whose book Destiny’s Awakening comes out June 28th.
How did you get started writing?
I’ve been writing on and off most of my life. I think the first time was when I was 5 or 6. We had a fish tank and there was a little pink catfish that busily kept the tank clean. I wrote his story. I bet my Mom saved that scrap of paper that held my early author scribbles.
What genre(s) do you write in and why?
I write in 4 different genres – Paranormal, Historical, Romantic Suspense and Contemporary. I guess I pen tales from so many because I LOVE to read the stories from all those genres. I notice that my stories do cross-pollinate a bit too. For example my current release, Destiny’s Awakening is a Paranormal. It also has a touch of Romantic Suspense and some Historical aspects. It’s fun to mix things up!
Tell us about your current series.
My current series, “Tales of the Fey” is a planned trilogy centering on three siblings in a Fey royal family. The first book is titled, “Destiny’s Awakening” and focuses on the brother, Alexander. The story itself is a bit of a twist on an old fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty. A modern woman, Evelyn, or Evie as she prefers to be called, finds herself thrust into another world. She’s totally out of her element, especially when she finds out she’s the one who has to do the kissing to wake up a handsome Prince. It’s a definite favorite of mine.
The second book focuses on Annora, Alexander’s twin sister and Crown Princess of their Fey realm, Sha’Mir. She’s been kidnapped, and is in serious need of a knight in shining armor to lend her a hand. What she finds instead is Sebastian “Bas” St. James. A bounty hunter, ‘Bas doesn’t own a set of armor, and even if he did, it would definitely be tarnished. Although he’s not what she wants, he’s exactly what she needs.
The third book focuses on Analiese, the younger sister. A true Renaissance woman, she’s a warrior Princess who dabbles in science and technology. On a crucial mission, she finds herself in a strange place, with no memory of who she is or how she got there. Enter jaded cop Jake Devlin. He’s been there and done most everything. In the doghouse with his lieutenant, he’s assigned to look over the vulnerable Analiese. Having someone like her in his care is something he’s never done before, and soon swears to never do again.
What is your least favorite part of writing?
Making word count! I can’t believe how freaked I get about how figuring out many words I’ve written! I think it has something to do with target word counts, deadlines, and commitments. When I finally settle down and just write, I start liking the writing process much better. Unfortunately, I’m a real perfectionist, so inevitably I start to obsess again about how many words I’ve written and how close I am to my target. One day I hope to just write the story and enjoy the flow of words without getting so caught up in how many words are included. : )
What is your next project and when will it be released?
My next project is the first of the Tales of the Fey series, Destiny’s Awakening. Alexander and Evie’s story will be available in both print and eBook on June 28, 2012. I’m currently working on Annora and Bas’ story. I’m figuring a late 2012 or early 2013 release for that title.
How likely are people you meet to end up in your next book?
If I find them interesting, VERY! At least some characteristic of their personality will likely find its way into my hero, heroine, or villain. I love to combine traits of people I’ve met or know into creating my characters. It makes them quite dear to me!
Do you prefer to read in the same genres you write in or do you avoid reading that genre?
That’s a really good question! I try to stay away from reading anything similar to the specific type of book that I’m currently working on. For example before I finished Destiny’s Awakening, I completely stayed away from any paranormal books, especially if they contained Fey (or farie, faery, faerie, etc.) characters.
Why?
Cross-pollination. It happens. I pick things up from my reading and without even thinking about it I twist it together with something already in my head. Although that may not sound bad, it wouldn’t be a good thing for me to write my own version of some best selling author’s latest work!
Why have you become a published author?
Because I love to write. I love to observe things and then make up stories and write them down. It’s always been a dream of mine to be able to earn a living by telling a tale or two. I’m happy to say I’m starting to live that dream, and it’s awesome!

She is experimenting with writing in several different genres, including paranormal – a definite favorite. “There is just so much you can do when you step outside the known world,” she explains “and creating a paranormal story allows you to take yourself and your readers anywhere your imagination wants to go!”
